WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT JENNIFER?

Anders Berntell

Previous Executive Director at 2030 Water Resources Group (World Bank)

“Jennifer was responsible for several of the hydro-economic analyses we did during the time when I was the Head of the 2030 Water Resources Group at IFC (World Bank Group). She had a very strong commitment to the work we did, and showed a deep knowledge of water/environmental economics as well as the policy and political aspects of this difficult and often sensitive nature of this field. She was also good at building trust with the partners within the countries we were working which was necessary for the successful outcome of these studies/analyses”

Greg Koch

Previous Senior Director Global Water Stewardship, The Coca-Cola Company

“Jennifer has successfully leveraged her background and experience in economics, water management, and policy to water stress and resultant risk. She is adept at doing this at a national level, as well as at a city level. This is unique as both perspectives are often necessary when posing solutions at either. Jennifer understands the fundamental nature of water, in economies, society, and ecosystems, and the many ways it is stressed, while being able to tease from that complexity potential risk, forming a strong basis for action.”

J Carl Ganter

Circle of Blue, Managing Director | Vector Center CEO | C-20/ G-20, Advisory

“From crisp boardroom presentations to gritty and comprehensive fieldwork, Jennifer puts the world’s water risks and challenges in strategic context. She uniquely combines her sense of exploration and strong leadership to make complex issues relevant and define clear actions for people, businesses, governments, and institutions. She is also passionate about sharing her wide experience, knowledge, and intense curiosity with students, colleagues, and collaborators.”

“Jennifer’s course exceeded my expectations.

Thanks to this training, I successfully transitioned from consulting for the public sector and international development organizations to becoming a water stewardship manager supporting private sector clients

The course gave me the skills and confidence to make this career shift, and I now apply what I learned on a daily basis.

I would absolutely recommend this training to anyone. It offers a comprehensive understanding of water risks, their underlying drivers, and practical tools for assessing them.

Most importantly, it reignited my passion for addressing water-related challenges and opened up new professional opportunities for me.”

Saurabh Singh

Saurabh Singh

“Jennifer’s Water Risk Assessment course in 2022 played a pivotal role in my career at BlueTech.

My first major project led to a promotion to Senior Analyst, expanding my work with corporate clients.

Over time, I collaborated with major brands, including some from FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix + Google), on water stewardship strategies.

The course provided invaluable momentum, helping me grow into leadership roles and ultimately become VP of Advisory Services at BlueTech Research in 2024.

I’m grateful to Jennifer for guiding me into this field through her course.”

WHAT'S INSIDE THE COURSE

MONTH 1 – Water Risk Foundations: Exploring global water risks, frameworks, and tools

Week 1: How to get clear on what you want in your water-risk career and set yourself up for success

Create a clear vision for why you want to become a credible water-risk expert and how this training supports your career goals. You’ll explore why water security matters, understand today’s global water-risk landscape, and see what happens when governments, companies, and financial institutions overlook these risks. You’ll define your niche, optimise your LinkedIn profile, and establish simple habits that help your professional visibility and network grow alongside your learning. By the end of Week 1, you’ll have renewed motivation, a clear sense of direction, and a personalised plan for how to use this certification to move toward the career you want.

Gain clarity on the key definitions and categories of water risks and understand how different organisations approach them. Compare major methodologies (including World Bank, UN, and ADB) and see why they fall short of fully capturing water-risk exposure. You’ll also learn the differences between assessing risks at transboundary, country, basin, city, and project-site level. Finally, you’ll get an initial introduction to the Water Risk Assessment Blueprint — your step-by-step guide for assessing and contextualising water risks for governments, corporates, and financial institutions — before we dive deeper in Month 2 & 3.

Learn about the dimensions that drive water-risk exposure for corporates and investment operations and the impact when these risks are left unaddressed. Deepen your understanding of double materiality by examining how water risks affect businesses and how business activities intensify water challenges, including extensions relevant for financial institutions. Explore the core categories of corporate water risks — physical, regulatory, and reputational — and understand how they are disclosed through global standards such as GRI, CDP, the Alliance for Water Stewardship, and emerging regulatory requirements like SEC and CSRD. By the end of this week, you’ll have a clear understanding of why corporates and investment operations must care about water risks — and how they can disclose meaningful actions toward water stewardship.

Become proficient in using open source tools such as WWF Water Risk Filter, WRI Aqueduct and WBCSD India Water Tool to assess water risks for your first high level water risk assessment. Gain clarity about the advantages and disadvantages of each tool and how to compare water facts across countries/ regions/ cities. Understand when you can apply these, and when a more in-depth assessment is required. Learn how to use these tools to engage with stakeholders to show them their exposure to water risk.

MONTH 2 – Water Risk Assessment: How to confidently apply the Water Risk Assessment Blueprint to get meaningful results

Week 5: Who's Who and how to engage stakeholders to get their buy-in and data you need, even if it isn't published

Learn how to identify the key actors in your basin or city, understand their roles, and engage them to access the insights you need for a robust assessment and impactful solutions. While much data is publicly available, some information — especially around water governance — becomes clearer when you speak directly with stakeholders. By involving key stakeholders early, you build ownership that increases the likelihood your findings will be implemented. You’ll learn who’s who in the water-risk arena, where to find key publicly available data, what questions to ask and how to navigate stakeholder interviews, including practical do’s and don’ts that strengthen both your analysis and your credibility. Note that stakeholder interviews are mostly optional and used only for more in-depth assessments.

Learn the fundamentals on water resources risks, including water stress, water pollution and water-related disasters. You gain confidence in assessing the availability of water resources (surface water and groundwater), considering environmental flow requirements where applicable, and how these may be expected to change with climate change. Further you will be able to assess water demand (agricultural, urban, industrial) today and know how to project water demand into the future considering economic and population growth. Based on this, you can confidently identify the water stress level – and any potential water supply-demand gap. You will also learn how to consider water pollution and water-related disasters as part of water resources risk. Worry not -as the analysis is based on secondary data, no hydrological skills or field work is required.

Become proficient in the fundamentals on infrastructure risk assessments. Learn how to assess  water supply and wastewater treatment capacity, non-revenue water, ageing infrastructure, infrastructure vulnerable to natural disasters and terrorist attacks etc. to assess infrastructure-related water risks. Worry not – as the analysis is based on secondary data and you will receive a template, no engineering skills are needed.

Learn the fundamentals of water governance risk — from legal frameworks and institutional fragmentation to finance, capacity, and corruption. You’ll explore how to bring these elements together into a structured governance-risk assessment and use your insights to anticipate how water-resources and infrastructure risks may evolve in the future. Worry not – as the analysis is based on secondary data and you will receive a template, no political science skills are needed.

MONTH 3 – From Assessment to Action: How to use your water-risk assessment to inform decisions, prioritise risks, and shape impactful solutions and strategy

Week 9: How to complete water risk assessments from start to finish for governments, corporate operations & supply chains, and financial institutions

Learn how to apply the Water Risk Assessment Blueprint from start to finish and tailor it to governments, corporate operations and supply chains, and financial institutions. You’ll understand how to assess and prioritise regional or national water risks for public-sector clients, evaluate site and supply-chain exposure for corporates, and identify portfolio-level risks for financial institutions. While each assessment follows the same core Blueprint, you’ll learn the additional steps required before and after to ensure clients fully understand their exposure. For corporate assessments, for example, you’ll work through the four phases of a “state-of-the-art” approach, including hotspot prioritisation, inside-the-fence analysis, in-depth basin-level assessments, and overall risk synthesis. By the end of this week, you’ll be equipped to conduct any type of water-risk assessment with confidence.

Learn how to present your water-risk assessment in a way that makes water security relevant to policy makers, executives, funders, and other stakeholders — even if they haven’t seen water as a priority before. You’ll practice framing your findings in financial, economic, and strategic language, and use “what-if” scenarios to make future risks tangible. You’ll experience how effective storytelling and the emotional dimensions of water can shift mindsets, and explore key insights from the psychology of change to motivate stakeholders to act with urgency. By the end of this week, you’ll know how to frame your findings to shift perspectives and influence decisions.

Gain clarity on the different models of stakeholder collaboration, and on the success factors behind long term, impactful engagements. Learn how to start and manage a results driven multi-stakeholder platform or collective action by identifying the right stakeholders, increasing participation and navigating power dynamics to find constructive solutions. Understand how to define goals transparently, build trust, and create mutually beneficial outcomes.. By the end of this week, you willl recognise the power of collective action and know how to make multi-stakeholder processes work effectively in practice.

Learn about the key solution categories across all water-risk areas and how to use them to identify more localised and concrete interventions. Understand how to prioritise solutions based on factors such as cost-effectiveness and their potential to close the supply–demand gap or reduce risks in the identified area. Gain clarity on how to turn your assessment into a practical set of next steps and what the key pillars of a successful water strategy look like. By the end of this week, you will understand the core solution pathways and how to develop an impactful water-risk strategy.

What Did Participants Like Most In the Course?

Brynn Williams

Project Manager Digital Products at GWF MessSysteme AG, Switzerland

“I had the privilege of being part of the first cohort to recently complete the “Water Risk Assessment Blueprint” course by Jennifer Möller-Gulland, which has given me a much broader knowledge on and structured approach towards assessing water risks.

In the course, Jennifer brought together a talented and motivated group of amazing people from diverse backgrounds and regions of the world which made for insightful and inspiring discussions. Jennifer is a seasoned professional and a skilled presenter, but her great personality really showed in her moderating of potentially tricky discussions from differing views, with patience, kindness, and wisdom, always moving towards positive and actionable outcomes.

The friends made and knowledge gained during the course has greatly impacted my career in water and I now have a great toolset to assist my clients in assessing and addressing the increasing water risks that we face in the world today.”

Antonia Frisia

Technology Consultant, Isle Utilities
Switzerland

“Jennifer is a very passionate water risk expert.

She transmits what she has learnt in all her previous work to the class and helps the students address water risk assessment in a structured methodology.

From the course I learnt how important it is to include all relevant stakeholders in the process, as well as how to recognize the most valuable sources of information and how to extract the most precise data and information from them.

I am now applying the WRAB methodology for industrial clients across the globe, and the benefits obtained from the course are noticeable

I learnt how to be quick and efficient in scanning through data sources, and understanding what is still missing to have the complete picture of thew water risks inside the basin.

The course also gave me the opportunity to interact with many different water experts and exchange ideas and knowledge with them.

I highly suggest taking the course if you want to progress your career in the water risk assessment field.”

Naval Sharma

Senior Sustainability and Forestry Specialist at IKEA | Bangalore, India

“I am highly inspired by Jennifer’s subject knowledge and on-ground wide experience on water risk and a thorough explanation during this 12-week program.

The tools and study materials are in-depth, and it is up to an individual how they want to create their own niche in water management and on which area they want to focus on for their own water risk assessment.

Icing on the cake is Jennifer has organized this course in such a way that individuals can also learn from industry leaders and experts on the global water issues whether it is… water risks, water governance, multistakeholder engagement, water infrastructure risks and the list goes on & on which is personally my favorite part of the course. Jennifer’s compassion and eunoia maker her fantastic leader in the field of water.

I am really looking forward to work towards assessing water risks, mitigate water risks in a more efficient, impactful, and collaborative way. I would like to share my favorite inspiring quote from the course” “Water isn’t important because the sector is less than 1% of GDP… The Problem is that the other 99% can’t do without it”. I hope you will also get the chance to experience this amazing 12-week journey.

Aiman Uteyeva

National Coordinator Kazakhstan | Water Resources Specialist | Asian Development Bank | Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan

“I enjoyed every aspect of the Water Risk Assessment (WRA) Certification course.

Jennifer is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the Water Risk Assessments.

In the beginning of the course she promised to share all her knowledge and experience about the WRA and she actually did that to the fullest.

I found the course to be of great benefit in providing everything one would need to assess water risks of any country

I personally took the course to assess water risks in Central Asian countries in future and become the “go-to person” in the sector.

I am glad to acknowledge that the course met all of my expectations.

Great content, great teaching, great value for money.

Thanks for this opportunity, Jennifer!

Brian Bear

Senior Leader Cell and Gene Therapy | Environmental and Biotechnology Consultant – Oregon, US

“I am in the midst of a career transition and I had some insecurity that I would be out of my depth with the content of this course.

My insecurities were assuaged quickly because Jennifer’s “Water Risk Assessment Certification” is much more than an informational exercise, but rather a tool-based and real world tested approach to understand how to practically build a water risk assessment from inception to completion.

The weekly lectures, guest speakers, open form discussions, and “Accountability Buddy” were augmented with invaluable references and tools available to those taking the course for an immersive examination of water risk assessment.

Nsuku Nxumalo

Former Strategic Water Sector Cooperation Officer at Embassy of Denmark, now Consultant at Pegasys, South Africa

“I joined the Water Risk Assessment Certification course to empower myself with the knowledge and skills I felt I needed to start carving out my niche in the water sector.

I really enjoyed learning from Jennifer’s wealth of experience, the guest lecturers, and the amazing and diverse cohort.

This course has already accelerated my career in giving me the courage to take up a new role which allows me to work on a variety of water risks.

I would definitely encourage anyone thinking about doing the course to go for it!

Water risk is something everyone in the water sector interfaces with in one way or another, whether you’re in the public or private sector, engineering, science, or policy, a holistic understanding of water risks and how they present themselves in different contexts will be incredibly valuable.

This knowledge, coupled with the practical assessment, the opportunity to meet other young water professionals and engage with guest water experts, makes this course really unique and totally worth it!

Meghana Rao

State Partnership Coordinator, World Bank/ 2030 Water Resources Group, India

‘I attended the Water Risk Assessment Certification Course by Jennifer Moeller-Gulland between October 2021 – January 2022.  I joined the course since I wanted to identify a niche for myself in the water sector.

The course was designed in a very well-structured manner which taught me not just how to conduct water risk assessments but to also understand and appreciate the diverse and layered aspects of the water sector.

The cohort of participants that was selected was helpful in bringing perspective to water-related challenges and approaches across the world. The guest-speakers that were invited to the course were very informative and helped in gaining a more practical and real world understanding of how the different aspects of water risk assessments are important while addressing water related challenges.

I highly recommend this course to any water sector professional (or aspiring water sector professional). This will help them get a holistic perspective on the water sector with the right tools to strengthen their professional focus!

Elizabeth Mandziuk

Elizabeth Mandziuk

Partnership Portfolio Manager, Centre of Excellence Yorkshire Water | UK

I came to Jennifer’s Water Risk Assessment Certification with a solid foundation in water risks from an MSc in Water Science & Governance and a decade of experience in the water and sanitation sector. I was looking to translate that knowledge into a more structured, practical approach to assessing and communicating water risks across diverse contexts and scales.

The course exceeded my expectations in the breadth and depth with which it covered assessing and communicating water risks from multiple and interlinked dimensions.

Jennifer is extremely dedicated to sharing her incredible wealth of knowledge and consistently updates and evolves the course materials to support everyone’s needs and interests alongside rapidly evolving global contexts.

Jennifer provided unmatched levels of tuition, guidance and feedback on assessments and workshops to help growth on a personal and professional level well beyond the core topic.

The course attracts an impressive, motivated and diverse group of participants from across the globe, bringing incredible additional value in the lasting professional networks it creates.

As global water challenges intensify in scale, complexity, and visibility, this course is a fantastic
investment for anyone serious about understanding water risks and driving meaningful, informed action across sectors.

The water risk assessment certification from Jennifer gave me amazing insights

While I am doing my MSc IWRM at the moment, the water risk angle – which isn’t covered during my MSc – was really helpful to understand the interconnections of several topics from my classes during the master course and how they apply to the “real” world.

I am interested in finding sustainable solutions for the people and this water risk assessment helps me to be aware of potential risk factors, which might lead to project failure.

This course is also great for young professionals or university students to learn a specific topic during their university studies or early career and create some more “hands on knowledge” and “practical tools” for the job market.

I feel that this course expanded my future career path.

It is an amazing and comprehensive course, and I learnt a lot in a really short period. The workshops where we discuss the findings of our own assessments and material covered help a lot. The 12 weeks passed very quickly!

Jennifer is amazing and helps the participants in whatever way she can to deliver a really good water risk assessment

I can recommend this class for everyone who is interested in water risks.

The course is fantastic because I’ve learned more in 12 weeks than in years in academia and my previous experience in the water industry.

Jennifer puts all the training material into context and backs it up with her experience of successfully carrying out water risk assessments – while hearing about participants’ and guest speakers’ diverse opinions and experiences has provided me valuable insights I can’t find anywhere else.

Guest speakers included professionals from The World Bank, The Alliance for Water Stewardship, WWF, (former) Coca-Cola, Circle of Blue, among many others. The participants came from all over the world with diverse backgrounds and shared their unique insight and expertise.

For anyone that is thinking of doing the water risk assessment certification is simple; DO IT!

I have been approached by many people and organizations that offer training and have never been persuaded. However, Jennifer and the course she has created is different. Jennifer has a lot of experience in the sector and is well-recognized, respected, and trusted for the quality of her work globally.

There is an alarming shortage of people who are not aware of carrying out a risk assessment. The water risk assessment certification is made to provide and equip individuals with sought-after information and skills that are barely taught anywhere. I have been trained with the crucial ability to apply sought-after skills.

Choosing this course from a professional in the industry at the highest level will open your eyes and enable you to have the edge of unique ability.”

“I joined Water Risk Assessment Certification (WRAC) as I am working to build more of a niche in my consulting business and I saw an opportunity to become an expert by taking this course.

One thing I loved most about the course was doing the actual analysis once Jennifer gave us weekly blueprint assignments. Receiving the layout of how to perform a water risk assessment is invaluable. For me, doing the weekly assignments was like getting to go out and play on the playground with a new set of skills I learned and would build on throughout the course. Once you develop the skills and put the pieces together, the work is quite enjoyable, especially if you are a genuine water nerd like myself 😉

My message to anyone on the brink of taking the WRAC, I would say go for it! The course is well worth your time and money.

Jennifer is a real expert in the field and provides a course that is well laid out, and contains sufficient material to prepare you for performing a real world analysis

Before taking the class I was nervous about spending the $, but after I took the plunge and went for it, I’m now seeing the dividends.

In addition to the course, you will be networking and collaborating with your peers, which also provides an additional benefit to the course material.”

The Water Risk Assessment Certification course has a systemic approach that revolutionized how I think and work when solving water problems that are vital to a healthy future for people and the planet.

Course instructor Jennifer is an incredibly valuable water expert with very keen insights, and a fantastic network of experts to share as speakers.

Jennifer’s “blueprint” is exactly what the world needs to address critical and interconnected water issues we face, whether working with corporations, cities, or other entities.

Through the course, she looks at the “big picture” and breaks down complex issues into do-able steps and is wonderfully relentless and good-humored in her approach that keeps students from different backgrounds engaged in discussion and research to advance their learning.

Jennifer creates a compelling course structure that builds community among the cohort, and lays a solid foundation for participants to take next steps as future water risk experts.

This course is vital for those looking to comprehensively understand water risks and how to address them in a holistic manner.

Thank you, Jennifer, for the new way I am now able to solve water issues in my consulting practice, with an expanded network, set of tools and revitalized mindset!”

Your Questions, Answered:

Am I guaranteed a job after this course?

No one can guarantee this for you – and if someone does I suggest to turn around and run away! Jokes aside – This course will give you not only a solid theoretical foundation, but it also makes you apply the knowledge. So by the end of the course will have determined your niche and you can undertake your very own water risk assessments. More so, you will also be able to advise on how to best use these findings to communicate their importance, create collaborative partnerships and identify and prioritize solutions. So after successful completion of this course you’re ready and fully qualified to get the job you truly want.

This depends a lot on how much you’d like to get out of the course. As a bare minimum there will be weekly 1.5 hour trainings and weekly 1 hour live workshops for 12 weeks. Beyond that it is suggested to keep about 1-2 hours per week to review lessons learnt to conduct your own water risk assessment to become a pro yourself. In case you get busy, you have an additional 3 months to complete everything, so across 6 months, the weekly workload is ~2 hours

No, you don’t need any prior experience on water risk assessments. The reason why it’s a 12-week program, is that I am going to break this down for you from A to Z. When you add this with the weekly 1 hour live sessions, I can support you even if you’re a complete beginner and starting from scratch! Knowledge on water management in general – however – is clearly beneficial. However, with the support system and some extra work you can also successfully complete this course without much prior knowledge on water management.

Yes, absolutely. If you come from another background, such as Finance, Development, Engineering, Economics, Law, Education, etc. this program gives you a great exposure to all things about water risks that will prove to be a very useful to complement to your existing expertise. With no prior knowledge in water management you might need to put some extra work in to catch up with the terminologies etc. However, with the weekly 1-hour live sessions, I can support you even if you’re a complete beginner and starting from scratch!

Yes, I do! You can get started for just 3 monthly instalments of $897 or for 6 monthly instalments of just $467. No credit checking required. Also, if you need longer payment plans, we can arrange for that. Just message me and so far we have always found a solution!

Absolutely. I am so confident that if within the first 7 days, you’ve tried out the first two weeks, showed up to the training sessions, and you don’t COMPLETELY LOVE IT, I will send you 100% of your money back.

This really depends on how much work you put into it. If you scan the trainings and don’t take much action, you will get a good holistic overview of water risks. If you, however, put more work into it and attend all trainings and workshops and follow all steps to conduct your own water risk assessment, you will be proficient in assessing water risks! Also, you will conduct your own water risk assessment that you can add to your portfolio, show future clients and make pitches on.

This depends on what the specific task is and what data already exists. If the task is to get a first good understanding of water risks for the area in which the site is located – YES! However, if the task is to understand the specific hydro(geo)logy tailored to the site and to understand exactly how much water is available – and when – this requires additional skill sets. You’ll learn the first big step (which in many cases suffices too) on how to understand which areas are at risk. If your client then would like a detailed site assessment, you can add an expert on that area to your team to complement your work.

Between the 12 x 1.5-hour trainings, weekly 1 hour live sessions (workshops, Q & A, guest speakers) a private community, and an accountability buddy, you will be smothered in support. Also Jennifer will review and give you feedback on your water risk assessment you will do as part of this course. This isn’t just an online course, this is a live, interactive, 6-month, program designed to bring you results!

The 12 training sessions as well as everything you need to conduct your own water risk assessment are available in the membership area and you work through them in your own pace. So no need to worry if you have some busy weeks and need to catch up. On Tuesdays we have the training sessions in which we dive into the theory. On Thursdays, we have our live and interactive workshops (Q&A, Workshop, Guest Speakers).

In case you miss any of the Live Sessions: No worries! You will get access to all the training recordings in your private members area, and you can watch them at any time that suits you within your 6 month period.

You’ll get 6-month access to all training materials and workshops. But as I know how valuable it can be to review the material again and again, you will get lifetime access to the training materials if you submit your individual water risk assessment within the 6 months (totally do-able in 3 months, so you have an extra 3 to spare!). Once you have lifetime access you will also have access to any updates to the training materials.
