About Water
Security Collective

Learn more about our founder, Jennifer Möller-Gulland — and the story behind our vision, mission and approach to build a water-secure future.

Our Vision

We envision a water-secure world where people, planet, and profit can thrive — built on strategic decisions that address the root causes of water risk, not just the symptoms.

Achieving this requires corporates, financial institutions, and governments to understand water risks at a systemic level and act on the underlying drivers that shape water security, climate resilience, and long-term value creation.

This vision becomes possible when decision-makers recognise that water security is not about “doing good,” but a strategic business and policy imperativedelivering measurable financial, economic, and socio-environmental benefits across operations, supply chains, and investment portfolios.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make the business case for water security unmistakably clear and to empower corporates, financial institutions, and governments with the tools, insights, and confidence needed to act.

We help decision-makers move beyond siloed technical perspectives and understand how water risks interact across systems, enabling them to identify root causes, prioritise the right interventions, and build lasting resilience.

To drive meaningful change, we focus on capability-building in practice. Through strategic advisory services — including Water Risk Assessments, Water Strategy & Stewardship Advisory, and Stewardship Certification & Assurance— and through the Water Risk Academy, founded in 2021, we equip professionals with the skills, credibility, and community required to turn insight into action across organisations and governments.

How we work &
What makes our approach different ?

By bridging science, economics, communications, and strategy, we help decision-makers move beyond siloed expertise and adopt a systems-thinking approach — so that they can identify root causes, prioritise the right interventions, and drive lasting resilience.

Our approach is grounded in a proven and proprietary methodology, our team’s multifaceted perspectives and a global network that ensures every project is both strategically sound and locally grounded. These three pillars guide how we deliver trusted, meaningful impact.

1. Our Proprietary Methodology

Systematic methodology, focused on identifying true risk drivers.

We use our proprietary, systematic, and holistic framework — the Water Risk Assessment Blueprint — to assess water-risk exposure, identify underlying drivers, and define impactful solutions that build long-term resilience. Our Blueprint evaluates physical, infrastructure, and governance risks at the city, basin, and national levels, and places these in context with site-level realities to provide a full and accurate picture.

While many advisors rely solely on open-source tools such as the WWF Water Risk Filter or WRI Aqueduct — which offer only a high-level view or focus on selected aspects like scarcity or drought — our approach goes significantly deeper. The Blueprint integrates multiple dimensions of water risk and avoids the incomplete assessments that can lead to misleading conclusions and faulty decision-making.

2. Our Global Water Risk Network

Global reach, grounded in local realities

We integrate local knowledge and specialised expertise into every project through our global network of alumni who have completed the CPD-accredited Water Risk Assessment Certification and understand our proprietary methodology. Together with trusted local partners, they bring on-the-ground context that keeps our work agile, culturally grounded, and aligned with lived realities.

Our alumni network now includes 100+ professionals across 45+ countries, enabling us to combine global insight with deep local understanding wherever we work.

3. Our Multifaceted Perspective

Strategic decisions informed by real-world understanding.

We bring strategic clarity to boardrooms while also going into the field — including underserved communities — to understand how water challenges unfold in real life. This dual perspective helps us recognise when high-level reports miss local realities, ensuring solutions address root causes rather than assumptions.

We work with cutting-edge research and emerging insights across regions and sectors. Our experience with governments, regulators, the World Bank, UN agencies, multinationals, local companies and NGOs gives us a deep understanding of the differing — and at times conflicting — needs of each stakeholder. This allows us to view water risks from multiple angles and design practical solutions that deliver real-world impact.

Our Impact

Our work has supported governments, development partners, and global brands to assess, understand, and communicate water risks—and act decisively to unlock strategic opportunities for resilience and growth.
